The market towns of Axminster and Bridport lie some five miles to the west and seven miles to the east respectively, Axminster having a main line rail connection to Waterloo.

Charmouth has its own Blue Flag beach and the popular resort of Lyme Regis, with its golf club, is only three miles further west.

The whole coastline, with Charmouth and Lyme Regis at its centre, has recently been designated a World Heritage Site and is commonly known as the Jurassic Coast.
