Family Days Out in Dorset When it's Raining

The English weather strikes again! We’re now in June and instead of beautiful sunny skies, the weather here in Dorset is like standing in the middle of a car wash!

Of course, just because the weather is bad, that’s no reason to waste a day of your caravan holiday stuck in your caravan or camper. We’re lucky enough to have a fine selection of indoor attractions both in Lyme Regis and nearby in Dorset which will keep you entertained while keeping you out of the rain.

What are your favourite wet weather family days out in Dorset? Head over to our holiday park facebook page and let us know.

Lyme Regis Museum

This museum is a great place to see a wide range of fossils from the Jurassic Coast, as well as learn about the world’s most famous fossil hunter – Mary Anning. Anning came from Lyme and was an early pioneer of the science of palaeontology, and Lyme Regis Museum has a permanent exhibition celebrating her extraordinary life.

Sealife Centre

The Weymouth Sealife Centre is one of Dorset’s most popular family attractions. It contains a breathtaking array of fish and sea creatures, as well as plenty of hands-on interactive learning opportunities for kids to do. This week the Sealife Centre is home to the rare Stellar Sea Eagle – only a couple of days left to catch it!

Fossil Hunting

Okay, so you’ll need to be outdoors exposed to the elements for this one. The reason we mention it is because if you’re serious about finding fossils in Dorset, the best time to go looking is immediately after a period of wet, stormy weather, when the wind and rain has eroded the cliffs and hopefully revealed a new batch of prehistoric treasures just waiting to be picked up from the beach. We expect there will be a few to find after this week’s rather unpleasant weather!

'Excellent site with clean facilities, friendly staff!'

'Friendly staff, the staff in the shop was incredibly welcoming! Loved how we were escorted to our pitch and also offered help with putting the caravan on the pitch. Swimming pool was small but ideal, good sauna! Outdoor pool was lovely also! Facilities were spotless considering we had awful weather they work extremely hard! Very clean site, great value for money!'

"Lovely Staff, Beautiful Location"

'What a Lovely holiday park thoroughly enjoyed its great location. Staff behind the bar were always helpful and talkative. Met a lovely couple working behind the bar I think the gentleman was called Steve they were incredibly funny and recommended local spots to visit for us.'

"Definitely will be back"

Good location with Charmouth beach and lyme regis near. Nice facilities on site and nice rooms. The tow bar restaurant is a gem with great food. Liked the activities on our stay like bingo. Overall a good stay and would love to come back again.

"Everything we needed"

Very tidy site, well laid out and well equipped. Towbar restaurant offered a good selection of quality food at all meal times, very good value for money and super friendly service. There is a small shop on site for all your essentials with access to another slightly larger shop in the village. Two pools and children’s play areas plus a gaming room were a real bonus. Shower and toilet blocks were cleaned regularly and always kept in good order. Location is fantastic, especially for avid fossil hunters with Charmouth beach around 20 minutes easy walk away through the village.

"What a wonderful place"

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Newlands. We stayed in the studio apartment block down the end (A17). The apartment was incredibly clean, spacious and had everything we needed for a short stay. My twin sons (3.5 years old) had the twin room, mum had the double bed, and I stayed on a blow up mattress that I brought with. We were very comfy.
