Exciting Local Events Coming Up Soon

Summer is almost here again, and this is the time of year when all sorts of exciting things to do in and around our Dorset. We’ve already had this year’s brilliant Fossil Festival in Lyme Regis, and here are some of the events we’re most looking forward to in the near future.

Devon County Show

This one is happening right now! Today is day two of the Devon County Show, so you only have tomorrow left if you want to visit this year’s show! It’s well worth a visit whatever your age and interests – there’s so much to see and do, and a fantastic festival atmosphere to enjoy.
One of the big attractions this year in the main arena is the Diggerland JCB Stunt Team  - they will be putting on a dancing diggers display, and if that’s anything like as good as it sounds, it will be a fantastic spectacle!

Elsewhere there will be mountain bike and BMX stunt displays, live music throughout the day, and a wide variety of entertainments for younger children, including a chance to meet Peppa Pig and the comic dancing robot Titan.

There is also the traditional elements without which no County Show would be complete, such as the livestock shows and the showjumping.
Head to the official website to find out more about what’s going on and when, as well as directions for how to get to the show grounds.

Lyme Regis Jazz, Blues and Real Ale Weekend

Lyme Regis’s annual jazz festival keeps on growing every year, and this time the headline acts include none other than Ginger Baker, best known for his work with Cream and Blind Faith, and widely regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all time.

The festival takes places over the weekend of 31st May to 2nd June, and to accompany all the fantastic music there will also be the opportunity to try a great range of local real ales from Town Mill Brewery, Mighty Hop and Art Brew throughout the day at the Marine Theatre.

It all kicks off on Friday 31st at 4pm, with the Mayor of Lyme Regis opening the festival at Cobb Gate. The traditional umbrella parade will begin at 11am, so bring a brolly and join the umbrella-wielding crowds marching through town accompanied by music from Arcadia Jazz Band.

You can buy a weekend pass for the festival or individual events tickets online at www.wegottickets.com, or you can purchase by phone by calling Lyme Tourist Information – 01297 442138.

Newlands Beer Festival

If the taste of unique locally-brewed Dorset ales whets your appetite for more, then don’t miss out on Newlands’ first ever beer festival on 21st-23rd June. There’ll be a superb selection of cider and beer on offer, and we’ll have music from the Lyme Regis Gig Club Shanty Singers, as well as other entertainment over the weekend.

Don’t forget it’s the weekend after Fathers’ Day, so would make a great present! Give us a call on 01297 560259 or go to our bookings page to book your accommodation!

'Excellent site with clean facilities, friendly staff!'

'Friendly staff, the staff in the shop was incredibly welcoming! Loved how we were escorted to our pitch and also offered help with putting the caravan on the pitch. Swimming pool was small but ideal, good sauna! Outdoor pool was lovely also! Facilities were spotless considering we had awful weather they work extremely hard! Very clean site, great value for money!'

"Definitely will be back"

Good location with Charmouth beach and lyme regis near. Nice facilities on site and nice rooms. The tow bar restaurant is a gem with great food. Liked the activities on our stay like bingo. Overall a good stay and would love to come back again.

"Everything we needed"

Very tidy site, well laid out and well equipped. Towbar restaurant offered a good selection of quality food at all meal times, very good value for money and super friendly service. There is a small shop on site for all your essentials with access to another slightly larger shop in the village. Two pools and children’s play areas plus a gaming room were a real bonus. Shower and toilet blocks were cleaned regularly and always kept in good order. Location is fantastic, especially for avid fossil hunters with Charmouth beach around 20 minutes easy walk away through the village.

"What a wonderful place"

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Newlands. We stayed in the studio apartment block down the end (A17). The apartment was incredibly clean, spacious and had everything we needed for a short stay. My twin sons (3.5 years old) had the twin room, mum had the double bed, and I stayed on a blow up mattress that I brought with. We were very comfy.
