Dog Friendly Days Out This Summer on the Jurassic Coast

1. Walkies with a View: Dog-Friendly Beaches

  • Charmouth Beach – A short walk from Newlands! While the main beach has restrictions in summer, East Beach welcomes dogs year-round.

  • Eype Beach – A quieter, scenic spot ideal for a relaxed walk or picnic.

  • Monmouth Beach (Lyme Regis) – Dog-friendly all year and great for fossil hunting!

Tip: Always check the latest beach restrictions, as some change during peak summer months.

2. Coastal Trails and Countryside Rambles

  • South West Coast Path – Take in the stunning cliffs and sea air with dog-friendly trails stretching in both directions from Charmouth.

  • Golden Cap – Dorset's highest point, and dogs love it! Just make sure they’re on a lead near livestock.

  • Langdon Hill Wood – A shaded woodland loop that’s great for hot days.

3. Paws Welcome: Local Attractions

  • Forde Abbey Gardens – Dogs on leads are welcome in the gardens.

  • Seaton Tramway – Dogs can ride the tram for a small fee. A fun way to explore East Devon’s countryside.

  • Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens – Offers dog-friendly areas and even dog water stations.

  • Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium – A small and quirky stop where dogs on leads are allowed inside to meet local sea creatures.

  • The Tunnel Tree Tops, Charmouth – While dogs can’t join you on the high ropes, they’re welcome in the surrounding woodland walk areas and picnic zones.

  • The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth – Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the site, including walking trails and the onsite café.

4. Dog-Friendly Pubs & Cafés

  • The George Inn (Chideock) – A local favourite with a dog-friendly beer garden.

  • The Pilot Boat (Lyme Regis) – Welcomes dogs and offers great views and seafood.

  • The Bank House Café (Bridport) – Cosy and canine-friendly.

'Excellent site with clean facilities, friendly staff!'

'Friendly staff, the staff in the shop was incredibly welcoming! Loved how we were escorted to our pitch and also offered help with putting the caravan on the pitch. Swimming pool was small but ideal, good sauna! Outdoor pool was lovely also! Facilities were spotless considering we had awful weather they work extremely hard! Very clean site, great value for money!'

"Definitely will be back"

Good location with Charmouth beach and lyme regis near. Nice facilities on site and nice rooms. The tow bar restaurant is a gem with great food. Liked the activities on our stay like bingo. Overall a good stay and would love to come back again.

"Everything we needed"

Very tidy site, well laid out and well equipped. Towbar restaurant offered a good selection of quality food at all meal times, very good value for money and super friendly service. There is a small shop on site for all your essentials with access to another slightly larger shop in the village. Two pools and children’s play areas plus a gaming room were a real bonus. Shower and toilet blocks were cleaned regularly and always kept in good order. Location is fantastic, especially for avid fossil hunters with Charmouth beach around 20 minutes easy walk away through the village.

"What a wonderful place"

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Newlands. We stayed in the studio apartment block down the end (A17). The apartment was incredibly clean, spacious and had everything we needed for a short stay. My twin sons (3.5 years old) had the twin room, mum had the double bed, and I stayed on a blow up mattress that I brought with. We were very comfy.
