family events in the Dorset calendar is coming up this weekend – the 3 day Lyme Regis Fossil Festival, which looks set this year to be the biggest and best ever!
We love seeing the town come alive every May bank holiday, as people of all ages descend on the town to have fun, learn and celebrate Lyme’s incredible legacy as the birthplace of palaeontology and home to so many truly incredible fossils.
Here is just a small selection of things you can do at the Festival:
• Watch the puppet theatre
• See the gravity-defying stone balancing art.
• Browse and buy all kinds of exciting rocks and prehistoric remains at the Fossil Fair
• Speak with scientists from the Natural History Museum
• Experience walking like a dinosaur on the brand new Dinosaur Runway
• Follow in the footsteps of Mary Anning with a guided walk around Lyme Regis
This year’s Festival will also be making history, with the biggest free community owned wifi network in the country! This groundbreaking feat of technology will help to support 3 brand new smartphone apps for the Festival, which will enable users to access all sorts of information about the area and bring Lyme’s ancient rock formations to life.
