Things to Do on Holiday in Charmouth

Summer is upon us, and the park is starting to fill up. We love welcoming new guests here to stay with us, and this week on the blog we thought we’d talk about some of the best things to do in and around Charmouth. There’s so many things to do and explore in Dorset, and here are three of our favourites!

Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre

The Heritage Centre sits on Charmouth beach and should be the first port of call for any aspiring fossil hunter arriving in the village. It hosts an incredible collection of fossils, as well as interactive computers, a fossil touch table and lots of information on the geology and wildlife of the area.

If you are lucky enough to unearth some interesting finds during your exploration of the beaches, you can head back to the Heritage Centre and examine them with the Centre’s high-tech video microscope.

The Centre is completely free to visit, and when you do you can sign up to one of the fossil hunting walks and rockpool rambles that the Centre’s experts run the whole year round.

Golden Cap Estate

On a sunny day, the view from Golden Cap has got to be one of the best in the country, if not the world. It is the highest cliff on the South Coast, and from the summit you can see as far as Dartmoor to the west, and the beautiful sweep of Lyme Bay to the east.

We described in a previous blog post the route you can follow from the South West Coast Path from Seaton up the gentle slope to Golden Cap. Read it here and try this memorable walk for yourself.

Cycling Trips and Tours

The rolling hills of the Marshwood Vale countryside around Charmouth are among Dorset’s greatest natural wonders, and nothing beats the experience of exploring this beautiful area on a bike. You’ll find lots of superb cycle paths to follow, and if you’re worried you might struggle with the steeper hills you encounter, why not hire electric bikes? The motor kicks in just when you need it, meaning you can explore this unforgettable slice of Thomas Hardy country without any strain or difficulty.

If you have any questions about things to do around Charmouth or anything else to do with your stay, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Call us on 01297 560259 or contact us on Twitter or Facebook.
