Places to Eat in Dorset

We know that for many of you, a holiday is as much about enjoying great food as it is about experiencing all the sights, activities and entertainments your chosen destination has to offer.

Fortunately, our little corner of Dorset has a well-deserved reputation for fantastic food, thanks in particular to the wonderful seafood which is so plentiful in the nearby area.

This week, we decided to share what we think are some of the best places to eat in Dorset.

Town Mill Bakery Lyme Regis

The Town Mill Bakery is just about the best place to buy bread, pastry and cakes in Dorset, as well as a fabulous and ever-changing selection of lunch and evening meals.

The bakery is renowned for its use of organic ingredients and artisan approach to baking. Here is their video guide to preparing the perfect scones.

Hix Oyster and Fish House

Before you even try the food, the first thing you will notice in the Hix Oyster and Fish House is the stunning view over Lyme Regis harbour – probably among the best views offered by any restaurants in the UK.

The restaurant is run by celebrity chef Mark Hix, and has built a national reputation for taking the freshest, tastiest seafood from the local area and preparing and cooking it to absolute perfection.

Bridport Farmers’ Market

The Bridport farmers’ market is a great way to sample some of Dorset’s best produce and culinary treats. The market features such delights as local meats, cheeses and fresh seafood, and is held monthly on the second Saturday of the month.

If you stop for lunch you will have to face deciding between all the wonderful pastries, snacks and other bites available – the best option is just to grab everything that takes your fancy and take it away with you for another day.

Newlands Dorset Holiday Park

Finally, if you love good food but don’t want to go too far to get it, how about fantastic local dishes right on your doorstep?

Newlands is a Lyme Regis holiday park with its own restaurant on site, serving delicious and varied dishes sourced as much as possible from the local area.

Our chef Alan Bird offers all the classic British dishes such as gourmet pies and steaks, and for those with a more eclectic palate, he is also a dab hand at delicious pasta dishes and a selection of enticing curries, including chicken korma and Kashmiri lamb.

Our menu is always changing too, as Alan’s real tour-de-force is his chef’s specials. He loves coming up with brand new mouth-watering dishes that keep our guests coming back for more.
