Help Save the Coastguard Helicopter - July 27th, 2012
Dorset’s Coastguard Helicopter, based on Portland, is scheduled to be removed from service by the government.
Our local helicopter has been saving lives for many years, and its loss will be keenly felt by Dorset’s coastal communities.
Please sign the petition by clicking http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/36619
Please help to keep the Portland Coastguard Helicopter, don’t forget, they regularly transport people from accidents on land to hospital, not just at sea and are a vital resource in transferring sick patients between hospitals across long distances within the UK.
Please forward this to everyone in your address book. We really need all the help we can get.

What’s Going on in Lyme Regis? - July 26th, 2012
Hooray for summer! It took it’s time coming, but it looks like the sunshine has finally arrived big time! The last few days have been absolutely gorgeous, and it’s great timing because there are a whole bunch of fantastic outdoor events coming up in Lyme Regis this summer and into the Autumn. Here are a few of the things we’re most looking forward to…
RNLI Lifeboat Week (21st July – 29th)
Lifeboat Week kicked off last weekend with the Red Bull Wakeboarders, and there are lots of different attractions and activities going on every day up until Sunday.
It’s all about raising money for a very good cause, namely the RNLI Lifeboat fund, which does so much good in seafaring communities like Lyme and relies entirely on donations to survive.
One of our highlights of last summer was the RAF Falcons parachuting down onto Lyme Regis beach, and we’re delighted to hear they’ll be back again on Friday, performing their spectacular jump at 3pm. Not to be missed!
Carnival Week and Regatta (August 4th – 12th)
The famous Lyme Regis Carnival is always a massive event for the town, and all the classic elements of the carnival will be returning once again this year, like the sea front procession and the fireworks over the Cobb providing the big finale. There’ll be a full week of festivities, from August 4th to 12th, and all proceeds raised will go to good causes in the local area.
Candles on the Cobb Evening (August 25th – 26th)
If you’ve never been to this incredible spectacle, we really urge you to go. Each year 5,000 candles are lit and placed around the Cobb and North Wall of the harbour, in memory of lost loved ones. The thousands of tiny flames twinkling in the darkness create a magical sight, and one which is utterly unique and unforgettable.
The Candles on the Cobb is on 26th August, and is preceded on the 25th by a torchlight procession on the seafront, which is also well worth a look.

Facebook Competition and Olympic Fever at Newlands! - July 19th, 2012
It’s finally almost upon us! We thought we couldn’t be more excited for the Games, until we got our hands on an Olympic torch in Lyme Regis last week. Now there’s just a week to go, and we can’t wait to cheer on the team with everyone here at the park.
Facebook Competition
We’ve got a great summer competition to bring you this month – perfect timing for anyone planning to take the kids away for a break in August after they break up from school!
We’re offering £90 off a week’s accommodation anytime between 6th and 23rd August. All you have to do is ‘like’ the Newlands Holiday Park Facebook page. Here’s a link to go and do it now!
Once you’ve done that, you will see a new page with a box to put in your details so we can contact you. You’ve got until 6th August to do it, as that’s when we’ll draw the winner.
The winner will have a choice of accommodation, with the offer valid for either a luxury 2 bedroom Seaton caravan (sleeps 4 people) or a poolside apartment (also sleeps 4)
Good luck folks!

Jurassic Coast Camping – How to Spend the Perfect Weekend in Charmouth - July 5th, 2012
When summer comes around we all start to feel the holiday urge tugging away at us, but actually organising a family break is not always easy. Finding a good time to take off work when the kids are on holiday can be tricky, and recent surveys show that many Britons are unable to switch off on their holidays because they’re too worried about what’s going on back in the office!
The antidote to these holiday woes is the weekend break. You get two days of fun and relaxation and a welcome change of scenery, all without having to take any time out from work or school. Here’s our guide to the ideal weekend Jurassic Coast camping break here in Charmouth…
Friday – Arrive in Charmouth
If you can, try to get here on Friday evening. That way you can get settled and have a good night’s sleep, ready to get out and about on Saturday morning. If you rent a tent, we’ll pitch it for you so it’ll be all ready for your arrival!
Saturday – Climb Golden Cap
When you’re all up and ready, we suggest you make the short walk through Charmouth down to the beach. This will acquaint you with our lovely old town and give you a chance to stop for breakfast in one of the many wonderful little cafes.
With your morning refreshments taken care of, West Dorset is your oyster. There’s so much to do here, and one of our favourite activities is the picturesque walk between Seatown and Golden Cap. You can either drive or get a bus to Seatown. Once there, follow this guide we wrote for the walk. Prepare yourself for some stunning views!
Sunday – Visit Lyme Regis and go fossil hunting
You can’t leave without first experiencing Lyme Regis. Visitors have been falling in love with this gorgeous seaside town for hundreds of years, and we recommend a walk along the famous 13th century Cobb sea wall, followed by a fish and chip lunch by the harbour.
If you have time in the afternoon before you head home, you can also have a go at one of the area’s most famous pursuits – fossil hunting! The beaches of Charmouth and Lyme Regis are among the best places in the world to find fossilised remains, and you can either join a tour led by local fossil experts or simply have a go yourselves.
Remember, you get to keep whatever you find, so if you do unearth any prehistoric treasures you will have a great souvenir to take home of your weekend in Dorset!
